Cnidoscolus megacanthus Breckon


Rocky hillside next to hwy. l90 between Oaxaca and Tehuantepec, l0.8 miles by road W of

El Camaron (turn-off for Nejapa de Madero). Selva Baja Caducifolia with candelabra cacti.

Small trees 4-6 m high, dbh 4.5 dm, trunk and stems beset with thorns to 1 cm high that

terminate in a low, conic stinging hair; bark grey with long shallow, irregular fissures, peeling

in small, thin chips; pith solid; lvs. paler beneath, acropetiiola glands green; fls white, both

anther whorls exserted; mature fruits losing thin exocarp before dehiscing.
