Lasthenia No. 63 is here!
Lasthenia is the semi-annual newsletter of the Davis Botanical Society, published in collaboration with the staff of the UC Davis Botanical Conservatory and the Center for Plant Diversity.
The golden fields of Lasthenia, found in the vernal pools and grasslands of Yolo, Solano, and Sacramento counties, is the namesake for our Davis Botanical Society journal’s title, following the tradition of naming your journal after a native plant of the area. Lasthenia californica, is a species of flowering plant, native to western North America, in the family Asteraceae known by the common name California Goldfields.
Teri Barry, our Collections Manager at The Center of Plant Diversity Herbarium, wrote her college thesis on Lasthenia.
We invite members to submit articles relating to botany in our area of interest. This can include articles, book reviews, and upcoming events such as field trips or workshops. For more information or to submit an article, please contact our current editor Kate Mawdsley.
